Our Scout Group is run entirely by a village of volunteers
Without the help of parents, friends and community Members supporting us with their time, our Scout Group just could not continue. We are all driven by:
- an appreciation for what Scouts has given to us and/or our kids
- a desire to give back to the community
- passion for the outdoors and Scouting
- wanting to support local young people to learn, develop resilience and skills - and to have fun!
Become a Scouts Leader
At 1st Berowra Scouts, we currently room for more kids in all sections, we just need more Leaders so we can move more kids from the waitlists. To get more local kids into the adventure, we’re offering a direct fast-track: volunteering as a Leader will move your child from the waitlist straight into their age group section.
Full training provided.
Only a couple of hours of your time each week during school terms.
Great local parent community.
Share amazing experiences with your kids – and move up through the sections as they do.
Anyone can be a Scouts Leader
If you’re worried about the time or experience required, don't be! This is a massive win-win for parents. Here is what's in it for you:
Free training and professional development: Through the Scouts Australia Institute of Training, your volunteer experience can even map toward nationally recognised qualifications like a Diploma of Leadership & Management or Certificates in Business. It’s a great resume booster for project management, risk analysis and team leadership.
Shared workload: You will never fly solo. We use a team-leadership model, meaning you share the load with 2–3 other local parents. If you have a late work meeting or travel for work, the team has you covered.
Low time commitment: It’s just 1.5 to 2 hours a week during school terms only. No school holidays and no mandatory weekend commitments.
No outdoor expertise needed: If you can manage a household or a project at work, you already have the skills we need. We handle all the training and mentoring! Spend quality time with your kids, give back to the community and add a powerful edge to your professional resume.
Leaders are required to attend:
- Group meetings one night a week during school terms
- A monthly Leaders meeting
- Group activities, such as hiking or camping trips, which take place a few weekends during the year.

Other ways to volunteer
We are always needing more help - the more hands we have, the lighter the load for everyone. While we are always keen for more new Leaders for our sections, there is something to suit everyone, including roles that you can do remotely from home for less than an hour per week, such as fundraising, accounts, maintenance and promotions.
